Split a payment across methods

A customer can settle one bill in more than one way - part on a card, the rest in
cash, or a voucher towards the total with the balance paid another way. The till
handles this by taking each payment against the same order until nothing is left
owing.

Before you start

  • The order is built. See Take an order and get paid.
  • If any part is being paid in cash, a cash balance is open. See Open the shop.

How it works

You do not tell the till in advance that a bill is being split. You take the first
payment for part of the amount, and the order keeps the remainder as still owed.
Repeat with the next method until the order is fully paid.

1. Take the first payment

Choose the method for the first part and place the order as usual. When the till
asks what was collected, enter the part being paid now, not the full total.

For cash, that means tapping OTHER AMOUNT and typing the smaller figure - see
Take cash and give change.

2. The order keeps the remainder

The order stays open with the balance outstanding, and says so plainly when you open
it: how much is still unpaid, and that an item costing more than the remainder
cannot be removed until the payment is refunded.

An order showing that part of it is already paid, with the outstanding amount

The PAY button at the bottom of the order takes the next payment. The order is
not finished until the outstanding amount reaches zero.

3. Take the rest

Open the order and tap PAY. The charge screen opens with the outstanding figure
already filled in - DKK 56 of a DKK 86 order where DKK 30 has been collected.

The order part paid, with the remainder still owing

Choose the method for this part. For cash, EXACT AMOUNT takes the figure shown.
If the bill is being split three ways, take this part short too and repeat.

What the order looks like afterwards

Each leg stays on the order as its own payment, with its own method, time and amount:

Both payments listed on the order

The order reads PAYMENTS (2) - Cash DKK 56 and Cash DKK 30 - with Amount to
be paid DKK 0
. Nothing is merged, so each leg can be refunded on its own.

If something goes wrong
