Use trainee mode to train new staff

Somebody new needs to practise ringing up orders without those orders counting as
sales. Trainee mode does that per person: you switch it on for the trainee, and what
they ring up stays out of your figures while everyone else keeps serving as normal.

Before you start

  • You are a manager at the shop. Only a manager can change trainee mode.
  • The trainee is already a staff member. See Add a staff member.

Turn it on for one person

It is set on the till, not in the manager app.

  1. On the till, open the menu at the top left and choose Settings.
  2. Open the Advanced tab and scroll to Trainee mode per person.
  3. Find the trainee in the list and switch trainee mode on. The row then reads
    Trainee mode is on.

<!-- GAP - screenshot of the Trainee mode per person section on the till. -->

If a row reads Not known yet, the till does not know that person's current
setting. It shows Turn on and Turn off instead of a switch: tap the one you
mean and the row then shows the saved value.

What it does

From then on, every sale that person rings up is marked as training.

A trainee's sale
Sales reports Left out
Cashier takings Left out
Fiscal exports (SAF-T) Left out
Taking payment Works as normal
The receipt Prints as normal

Everyone else at the shop is unaffected, so a trainee can practise on one till while
the rest of the team serves real customers.

A trainee's sales are still real payments. The till does not stop them taking
money or printing a receipt. If a trainee serves a real customer, that payment is
taken but left out of your reports. Keep trainees on practice orders, or take real
customers yourself.

Turn it off when training ends

Go back to Settings → Advanced → Trainee mode per person and switch it off for
that person. The row reads Trainee mode is off.

Turning it off does not change orders already rung up. Each sale keeps the mark it
was given when it was made, so practice stays out of your reports, and real sales
taken in trainee mode stay out too.

The till's own trainee mode is something else

Just above, the same tab has a Trainee mode switch for the device. That one
turns the whole till into a practice till: payments are refused (Payments not
allowed in trainee mode
), receipts say they are not valid, and the till shows
Exit Trainee Mode at the top until a manager turns it off with the manager PIN.
Use it for a practice session on a till nobody serves from. For a new cashier who
serves alongside the team, use trainee mode per person.
